Our Family Has Given A Voice To The Injured For Over 50 Combined Years
An arrest has been made in a hit-and-run collision that seriously injured a 17-year-old girl. A Bergenfield resident was apprehended Monday following a months-long investigation into the November 2024 incident by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office and the Teaneck Police Department. He has been charged with knowingly leaving the scene of an accident resulting in serious bodily injury, endangering an injured victim, and obstructing the administration of law.
Officials said the Englewood teenager was attempting to cross the road in the marked crosswalk at the Teaneck Road and Tyrone Avenue intersection when she was struck by a 2015 BMW driven by Sunder. The driver fled the scene without notifying authorities or rendering aid to the injured teen, who was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries.
Vehicle and pedestrian crashes are especially dangerous, often leading to severe injuries or fatalities. In New Jersey, over 6,000 vehicle crashes involving pedestrians occur each year. Drivers are required to stop for pedestrians in marked crosswalks and yield to pedestrians in unmarked intersections.
New Jersey also has strict laws regarding hit-and-run accidents. Drivers involved in crashes resulting in injury or death are required to stop, report the accident to the police, provide their information, and assist the injured. Fleeing the scene of an accident can result in severe penalties, including substantial fines, license suspension, and imprisonment.
